Connecting People with Latvia's Living Heritage
Andrejs has spent the last 16 years documenting and sharing Latvia's ethnographic heritage. He's not just studying old farmsteads — he's making sure the stories behind them stay alive and accessible. Starting as a junior researcher at the Latvian Ethnographic Museum in 2008, he's developed into one of the country's leading voices on traditional rural heritage and sustainable cultural tourism.
His real passion is creating experiences that work. When he developed the museum's first dedicated walking tour program in 2013, it wasn't just another guided walk. It was designed specifically for people who want to understand the "why" behind what they're seeing — the daily rhythms of farmstead life, the connection between landscape and culture, the crafts and traditions that shaped generations. That program now serves over 2,000 visitors annually, mostly retirees and cultural enthusiasts who appreciate the depth and authenticity he brings.
Today at aussieschoolfonts SIA, he combines rigorous historical research with storytelling that actually resonates. Every guide, every article, every experience he creates carries the weight of genuine expertise while remaining accessible to anyone curious about Latvia's cultural landscape.
16 Years Building Cultural Connections
Junior Researcher & Oral Historian (2008–2013)
Started at the Latvian Ethnographic Museum cataloging farmstead collections and conducting oral history interviews with elderly residents around Jugla. Spent five years documenting daily life practices, traditional knowledge, and family histories that might've been lost otherwise.
Walking Tour Program Developer (2013–2015)
Created the museum's first dedicated walking tour program, recognizing that people connect better with heritage when they're physically present in the landscape. The program expanded to serve 2,000+ annual visitors and became a model for other institutions across Latvia.
Museum Curator & Content Developer (2015–2021)
Completed advanced studies in museum curation at Riga Stradiņš University and transitioned to content strategy. Realized that well-crafted narratives could deepen visitor connection more effectively than displays alone. Developed comprehensive exhibition materials and educational programming.
Senior Cultural Heritage Specialist (2021–Present)
Now at aussieschoolfonts SIA, leading content creation and educational programming for Latvia's ethnographic sites. Focuses on sustainable tourism for mature audiences, creating guides and experiences that honor both the physical heritage and the living cultural knowledge these places represent.
What Andrejs Knows Inside Out
Ethnographic Open-Air Museums & Heritage Sites
Deep expertise in Latvia's ethnographic museum landscape, particularly the Latvian Ethnographic Museum and surrounding heritage sites. He understands not just what's preserved, but why it matters — the historical context, the architectural significance, the daily practices these structures represent. He's worked directly with farmstead collections, documented building techniques, and conducted extensive fieldwork around Jugla Lake and traditional settlements. This isn't theoretical knowledge; it's built on years of hands-on research and direct relationships with heritage sites.
Jugla Lake Walking Routes & Sustainable Tourism
Specializes in designing walking experiences that balance accessibility with authenticity. He's created routes around Jugla Lake and traditional farmstead areas specifically for retirees and mature audiences — people who want genuine cultural experiences, not rushed tours. His approach combines landscape ecology, architectural history, oral traditions, and practical considerations like pacing, rest points, and comfort. He's designed over a dozen established routes and continuously develops new content that honors both the heritage sites and the visitors who come to experience them.
